Designed for the real load
We size for the product coming in, not the empty room. Redundancy wherever downtime costs stock.
Refrigeration packs and plant rooms, chilled and frozen cold rooms, blast freezers and supermarket cooling. Industrial refrigeration in Malaga designed, installed and maintained by our own engineers since 2010, with a tailored maintenance contract and 24-hour call-outs so your stock never goes in the skip.
In industrial refrigeration a breakdown isn't an inconvenience. It's a freezer room at −18 °C creeping up a degree at a time, a dairy multideck that has to be emptied, or a bakery that can't open. That's why at ITAFE every industrial refrigeration system is designed from day one not to fail, and to recover fast if it does: redundancy where it counts, temperature monitoring, and a maintenance contract with an engineer who already knows your plant room.
We design and install refrigeration packs, chilled and frozen cold rooms, blast freezers, bakery and kitchen refrigeration and commercial display cooling for supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, food producers and logistics across Malaga province and the Costa del Sol. And we take over maintenance of systems installed by others that have been left without a proper service engineer.
Our own engineers, no subcontractors. F-Gas paperwork kept up to date. 24-hour call-outs, bank holidays included. As it should be.
Once a business has several cold rooms, multidecks and display counters, fitting one condensing unit per service becomes expensive to maintain and wasteful to run. The answer is a refrigeration pack: several compressors in parallel in a plant room, feeding every chilled and frozen service in the building, with the condensers on the roof and electronic control that only starts the compressors the load actually needs.
We design the whole plant room: compressor rack, condenser, liquid receiver, separators, control panel, controllers and the pipework out to every evaporator. And one thing that isn't optional in industrial refrigeration: redundancy. A properly sized standby compressor costs less than a single day of lost stock.
Chilled cold rooms for fresh produce, fruit, dairy, meat and fish; freezer rooms; and blast freezers that pull product temperature down quickly before it goes into frozen storage. Insulated panel, doors, evaporators with defrost, insulated floors at no obligationzer rooms, and compressors sized for warm product coming in, not for an empty room.
The most common mistake we find in other people's cold rooms: an evaporator and compressor sized to hold temperature, not to pull down the load that arrives every day. The room copes until the busy season arrives. For more detail, see our Spanish pages on cold room installation in Malaga and emergency cold room repair.
A supermarket is a refrigeration plant that happens to sell things: dairy and fresh multideck cabinets, frozen islands, butchery and fish counters, an in-store bakery and the back-of-house cold rooms. Usually all of it hangs off a refrigeration pack running at two temperatures. We fit out new stores, upgrade those that have outgrown their plant, and replace old packs with ones running refrigerants that will still be available in the years ahead.
Store air conditioning and cabinet refrigeration affect each other: if the sales floor air is humid, the cabinets sweat and the evaporators ice up. So in large stores we design commercial air conditioning and refrigeration as one system, and where the roof allows it, rooftop units for the sales floor.
Hotel kitchens, beach clubs, high-volume restaurants, central kitchens, catering and bakeries: chilled and frozen cold rooms, blast chillers, proving rooms and cooling for prep areas. On the Costa del Sol the season sets the pace, and a cold room that struggles in July is a kitchen that struggles in July. We also install refrigeration for chains with sites all over Spain, such as Granier bakeries, to the same standard at every opening.
Cold-chain logistics platforms, fruit and vegetable packhouses, meat and fish processing, wineries, laboratories and processes that need chilled water or air at a controlled temperature. Industrial refrigeration with chillers, large-volume cold rooms, blast freezers and plant rooms with remote monitoring. Across Malaga province and, for large projects, wherever the job is: in this trade, we travel.
Regulation (EU) 2024/573 on fluorinated gases sets the timetable. Since 2025, high-GWP gases (GWP of 2,500 or more) can no longer be used to service refrigeration equipment except with recycled or reclaimed gas, and HFC quotas shrink every year, so the classic refrigerants will keep getting scarcer and dearer. In plain terms: an old R-404A pack is now a business risk, not just an old piece of kit.
The direction in commercial and industrial refrigeration is clear: CO₂ (R-744) for supermarket and industrial packs, and propane (R-290) for compact equipment and integral cabinets. Both are natural refrigerants with minimal GWP that demand better design and better workmanship (high pressures with CO₂, flammability precautions with propane). We advise without dogma: on every job we pick the refrigerant that will stand up to the next fifteen years of regulation and that your budget and building allow.
Industrial refrigeration runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so every efficiency gain multiplies. Floating head pressure (dropping condensing pressure when the night or the winter allows it), inverter-driven compressors, EC fans, demand defrost instead of timed defrost, and doors and strip curtains that actually close. And on the Costa del Sol, with the sunshine we have, solar PV sized for the refrigeration load is one of the soundest investments a supermarket or cold store can make.
Probes in every cold room and service, continuous logging and alerts to your phone when a temperature drifts out of range or a compressor trips. That's what turns a 3 a.m. fault into a timely phone call instead of a skip full of stock. Temperature records are also part of the cold-chain control that food safety audits ask for; with monitoring in place, you have them without a clipboard on the door.
In industrial refrigeration, maintenance isn't a recommendation. It's what separates a plant that lasts twenty years from one that's replaced after eight. Pressures and superheat, leak checks at the frequency the refrigerant charge requires, condenser cleaning, defrost checks, oil, electrical terminations and current draw per compressor. All of it logged.
Our contracts sit within ITAFE PRO Business: a plan built around the number of services and how critical each one is, a named engineer who knows your plant room, priority call-outs and your F-Gas paperwork (refrigerant log, leak checks, certificates) handled by us. There's no price list: we quote after a site visit, because no two plant rooms are alike, and you pay the way that suits you, with the option of up to 12 monthly direct debits.
A compressor that won't start, a refrigerant leak, an evaporator iced solid, a pack tripping on high pressure with 38 °C on the roof. We answer industrial refrigeration emergencies 24 hours a day, bank holidays included, across Malaga province. Contract customers go to the front of the queue: in August, that priority is what saves the stock.
We size for the product coming in, not the empty room. Redundancy wherever downtime costs stock.
No subcontractors. Call-outs all year round, with priority for contract customers.
Leak checks, refrigerant logs and certificates handled by us. No nasty surprises at inspection.
We size the solar plant for the round-the-clock refrigeration load, and look after both.
Every product has its own temperature, humidity and delivery rhythm. The system is designed around that.
Two-temperature refrigeration packs, multidecks, islands, counters and back-of-house cold rooms. Refits and pack replacements without closing the store.
Kitchen cold rooms, freezer rooms, bar and banqueting refrigeration, maintained around occupancy so the season never catches you short.
Chilled and frozen storage, blast chillers and prep cooling for kitchens that run flat out from June to September.
Chilled, frozen, blast chilling and proving rooms for bakeries, patisseries and catering.
Large cold rooms with humidity control, pre-cooling and blast freezers for the harvest. Packhouses, meat and fish processing.
Cold-chain platforms, loading bays and transit cold rooms with remote monitoring and audit-ready temperature records.
An industrial refrigeration system never rests: compressors running 24 hours a day, every day of the year. And it draws most power exactly when the sun is strongest, at midday and in summer, with the roof baking and the condensers working at their limit. That consumption curve is a near-perfect match for a self-consumption solar plant: the panels produce when your plant room needs it most.
At ITAFE we design, connect and maintain your company's solar array or plant with the refrigeration in mind, not as a generic roof job. We know what each pack draws, when each compressor cuts in and what August does to all of it. And we look after it afterwards, because a dirty array or a stopped inverter quietly produces less, and nobody notices until the electricity bill arrives.
One team for the cold and the sun. One contract. One point of contact. If something goes wrong, there aren't two companies blaming each other. More on solar energy for businesses in Malaga.

The process is the same for a bakery cold room and for a supermarket pack.
Product, target temperatures, daily deliveries, opening hours, condition of the existing plant, electrical supply and space for the plant room. Site visit with no obligation.
Load calculations, selection of compressors, evaporators and condensers, a refrigerant with a future (CO₂, propane or low-GWP HFC depending on the job) and a phased plan.
Temporary cold rooms or service-by-service changeovers so the store stays open. Installation, evacuation, charging, commissioning and logged set-points.
Planned maintenance, F-Gas leak checks, monitoring and 24h priority from an engineer who knows every compressor in your plant room. Tailored quote, flexible payment.
Refrigeration for the bakery and shop floor of the Granier chain, replicated to the same standard at sites all over Spain and handed over on time for each opening.
The kind of job we do: replacing an old pack with one running a low-GWP refrigerant, service by service, so the store never closes.
The kind of job we do: chilled and frozen storage with temperature monitoring and a maintenance contract.
There's no price list. It depends on the volume to be cooled, the target temperature, the product coming in every day, the number of services and the refrigerant. A bakery cold room and a supermarket pack are completely different jobs. After a site visit we give you a fixed quote, itemised line by line. The site visit carries no obligation, anywhere in the province.
One you'll still be able to buy in ten years. Regulation (EU) 2024/573 cuts HFC quotas year after year, so for new supermarket and industrial packs the usual choice is CO₂ (R-744), and for compact equipment, propane (R-290). On every job we weigh cost, building and safety, and explain why we've chosen each refrigerant.
Regulation (EU) 2024/573 sets the frequency according to the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO₂ equivalent: the bigger the charge, the more often, and a fixed leak detection system reduces the frequency. Under a maintenance contract we schedule the checks each system needs and keep the mandatory refrigerant log for you.
Not while it works, but since 2025 servicing with gases of GWP 2,500 or more, such as R-404A, is restricted to recycled or reclaimed refrigerant, which is dearer and harder to find. The sensible move is to plan a replacement or retrofit before a major leak forces you to do it as an emergency in July.
Yes, 24 hours a day, all year round, across Malaga province. Compressor won't start, refrigerant leak, iced-up evaporator, pack tripping on high pressure. Customers with a maintenance contract get priority response.
Yes, it's common. We start with an audit of the plant room and cold rooms, fix whatever is urgent and bring the system into a maintenance contract with its F-Gas paperwork brought up to date. Many of the systems we look after come from service companies that stopped answering the phone.
It's tailored within ITAFE PRO Business: planned visits according to how critical each service is, leak checks and refrigerant log, condenser cleaning, defrost and current-draw checks, monitoring if you have it, 24h priority call-outs and member terms on parts. No price list: we quote after a site visit and you pay the way that suits you, including up to 12 monthly direct debits.
It's one of the best uses of solar PV: refrigeration runs around the clock, and on the Costa del Sol the sun meets a good share of the daytime load. We size the solar plant alongside the refrigeration to make the most of self-consumption, then maintain it: panel cleaning, inverter checks and production tracking, under the same contract. Refrigeration, air conditioning and solar as one system is what ITAFE does.
