Air conditioning in Torremolinos
A town that lives on the beach and on its terraces.
Torremolinos is the closest town on the coast to our workshop, and it is where a lot of our week happens. It is a particular place to install air conditioning in: tower blocks in Playamar with dozens of outdoor units on the facade and a community that has rules about every one of them; the low streets of La Carihuela where the salt air reaches the second floor; hillside houses in Montemar with terraces that catch the afternoon sun; older apartments around El Calvario and the centre with units from the 1990s still bolted to the balcony.
And it is a town with a lot of owners who are not here all the time. Holiday apartments, second homes, small hotels and hostels near the beach: places where the air conditioning has to be ready on a date and where a breakdown is not an inconvenience but a refund. La Carihuela and the beachfront
The old fishing quarter, now a strip of restaurants, small hotels and apartments a few metres from the sand. Salt air is the whole story here. Outdoor units corrode faster than anywhere else in town, brackets rust through, and a unit that is not cleaned properly every year loses its cooling long before it dies. For restaurants on the paseo we install systems that cope with an open front and a hot kitchen, and we service them outside opening hours. For apartments, a well-placed outdoor unit and a twice-yearly service matter more than the badge on the front.
Playamar and the tower blocks
Tall blocks, hundreds of flats, and every facade already lined with outdoor units. Communities in Playamar tend to be strict about where a new unit can go, what colour the pipework trunking is and how much noise it makes. We work with that. A multi-split lets you cool two or three rooms with a single outdoor unit in the position the community allows, the pipework runs in trunking that matches the building, and a modern Inverter unit is quieter than the one it replaces. If a neighbour has complained about your old unit, that is usually the end of it.
Montemar, El Pinillo and the hillside
Detached and semi-detached houses, terraces facing west, and gardens where the outdoor unit can actually be placed properly rather than squeezed onto a balcony. This is where ducted systems come into their own: one hidden indoor unit, grilles in every room, nothing on the walls, and zone control so the bedrooms upstairs and the living room downstairs are not fighting each other. Plenty of houses here also have roof space for solar, and we design the two together.
Los Álamos, El Calvario and the centre
Older apartments and townhouses, many with the original cooling-only units still in place. Replacing an old unit is the most common job we do in this part of Torremolinos: out with the machine that only cools and drinks electricity, in with an Inverter heat pump that also heats in winter, using the existing position and pipe route where it is sound and replacing it where it is not. The old refrigerant is recovered by certified staff and the old unit goes for legal disposal, not into a skip.

In a town of apartment blocks, noise is the air conditioning question that actually reaches the community meeting. An old outdoor unit rattling on a rusted bracket at two in the morning is how neighbours fall out. Most of the noise is not the machine: it is the bracket, the vibration into the wall, the position under someone's bedroom window and the panel that came loose three summers ago.
We install outdoor units on anti-vibration mounts, on brackets that are not going to rust, in the position the community has approved, and we choose Inverter units that run quietly at part load instead of switching on and off all night. Air conditioning in Torremolinos: what owners ask us.
Can I install an outdoor unit on my balcony in an apartment block?
Usually, but the community of owners decides where and how. Many blocks in Torremolinos have rules about facade units, trunking colour and noise. We tell you what to ask the administrator before we quote, and if only one outdoor unit is allowed we design a multi-split around it. Installing first and asking later is how disputes start.
My air conditioning is too noisy and the neighbours have complained. Can it be fixed?
Very often, yes. Most noise comes from a loose panel, a rusted bracket or vibration into the wall, not from the compressor itself. We check the mounting and the fan first. If the unit is old and the noise is the machine, a modern Inverter unit on anti-vibration mounts is dramatically quieter, especially at night when it runs at low load. I rent my apartment out. How do you handle access?
We work with your keyholder, your property manager or a lockbox, on a date range you give us. We service or install, send you the report or the handover by email, and as an ITAFE PRO member your guests have a number that answers fast if something goes wrong while you are away. Many of our Torremolinos customers we have never met in person.
Is it worth replacing a unit that still works?
If it only cools, uses an old refrigerant and is more than ten or fifteen years old, usually yes. A modern Inverter heat pump uses far less electricity for the same cold, heats the flat in winter, and is much quieter. The old unit is removed and its refrigerant recovered legally. We give you the price and the honest answer at the site visit.
How often should I service air conditioning near the beach in Torremolinos?
Twice a year if you are in La Carihuela, Playamar or anywhere the salt air reaches: once before summer, once before winter. Inland and sheltered, once a year before the summer is fine.
